Medical Guardian Medical Alert Review
A Premium Medical Alert Offering
Based in Philadelphia, Medical Guardian was founded in 2005 and is one of the largest medical alert system providers in the country. If you want some the best medical alert devices with premium features, Medical Guardian could be your next provider.
Equipment
Medical Guardian has a wide variety of product offerings, with three in-home products (MGClassic, MGHome Cellular) and two mobile products (Mobile, Active).
Every option has a base unit, a wearable wristband or pendant emergency button, and two-way communication. A fall detection pendant can be added to almost all of the units for an extra fee.
MGClassic
MGClassic is the most basic of all products offered, and the least expensive of their lineup at $29.95 monthly. It is an in-home unit that connects to a landline telephone and offers up to 1,300-foot of coverage area.
MGHome Cellular
The MGHome Cellular is the second in-home unit priced at $37.95 monthly. The system connects via 3G, so a landline is not required.
MGMini
The MGMini is a self-contained mobile medical alert system using AT&T cellular technology and costing $39.95 monthly. The unit is small to carry in a purse or pocket. The device also has integrated GPS for location tracking, and the battery lasts up to one day.
Three colors are offered which is great for having multiple devices for different family members in the same home. This is a premium offering from Medical Guardian and as so, there is an upfront device fee of $149.95.
Medical Guardian Price Comparison
Provider | Monthly | Activation Fee |
---|---|---|
Medical Guardian | $29.95/mo | none |
Bay Alarm Medical | $21.95/mo | none |
MedicalAlert.com | $22.95/mo | none |
GetSafe | $24.95/mo | none |
Monitoring
Medical Guardian contracts their 24/7 monitoring to Affiliate Monitoring which is owned by LifeStation. Aside from the typical emergency dispatch of first responders, operators are also able to handle non-emergency calls as well. For either type of call, operators can connect a user to first responders or members of the user’s emergency contact list.
The center is certified by The Monitoring Association (TMA) with a Five Diamond certification. English and Spanish speaking operators are available, and the company uses a third-party translation service to cater to other languages.
Pricing
Medical Guardian’s products range from monthly rates of $29.95 to $79.95. Fall detection is an extra $10 monthly, and extra buttons are $2.99 monthly. A protection plan may also be added for $5.99 monthly to protect users in the event of lost or damaged equipment fees of up to $350. To mitigate this, we’d recommend purchasing the equipment outright to avoid the hassles of returns and equipment fees. It’ll be more expensive up front but less of a headache when it’s time to end service – especially for seniors that have a hard time getting out of the house or, god forbid, your loved one passes and you have to travel across state lines just to return the device.
Medical Guardian’s Home Systems are a good value, considering their quality and features. Here’s how the MGClassic with fall detection compares to other home landline medical alerts.

Medical Guardian has proven itself to be a praised and reliable medical alert system provider, as evidenced by many other medical alert comparison sites. The company also touts itself as a family-oriented as because founder Geoff Gross created the company in 2005 with his grandmother in mind after she experienced her own falls.
