Lifeline offers easy-to-use, reliable alert systems and finds its way into our Best list for 2024. If you’re looking for a household name in healthcare and willing to pay extra for it, look no further than the medical alert offerings from Lifeline.

Lifeline is a storied company with a strong reputation. Formerly known as Philips Lifeline, the company has a long history with a sterling reputation. This company introduced medical alert systems in the United States back in 1974.  In 2021, the company was acquired by ConnectAmerica, the same company that owns MedicalAlert.com.

With any business acquisition, there is a concern that a company’s level of service might change. However, we’re happy to report that during our experience with Lifeline, the company demonstrated superior service. At multiple points in our interactions with them, the sales and support team went beyond our expectations to make things easy for us. Service is an area where the Lifeline really stands out.

Always incredibly easy to set up, maintain, and use in an emergency, we also recommend Auto Fall Detection if your loved ones are prone to falling and losing consciousness.

Lifeline is a premium offering with years of time-tested reliability. We have no issue recommending Lifeline and are proud to include them on our best-of list this year.

LifeLine HomeSafe Overview

Lifeline pioneered the home medical alert system nearly 50 years ago and is now owned by Philips, part of the ConnectAmerica suite of services for older adults. Lifeline is known for its outstanding customer service, and its HomeSafe system is easy to set up and activate. For those who prefer, professional installation is available for $99. The HomeSafe AutoAlert system is well suited for users without reliable cellular service, offering added peace of mind. However, it comes with a higher price tag and fewer features than some lower-cost competitors.

Lifeline provides significant discounts for AARP members, including free product activation and shipping. To take advantage of these offers, have your AARP membership number ready when purchasing the system.

In terms of performance, the help button had impressively fast response times—during 10 tests, all calls connected within 20 seconds. Each call’s details were recorded in the Caregiver Portal. However, we encountered delays in some fall detection tests, with response times exceeding two minutes. This was concerning, as operators couldn’t explain the delays, and timely assistance is critical in medical emergencies.

Subscribers have access to the Lifeline Cares app, which links to the Caregiver Portal. The app is available on both Apple and Android devices, and users can also access the portal from a desktop computer.

Lifeline makes cancellation and returns easy. Be sure to keep the original shipping box and the “Equipment Return” envelope, which includes a prepaid FedEx label for returning the equipment.

Lifeline stands out for its top-notch customer service, clear instructional materials, user-friendly Cares app, and hassle-free returns process.

Lifeline "On The Go" Mobile Medical Alert System

Lifeline On The Go is a GPS-enabled medical alert with built-in automatic fall detection. The company introduced the medical alert system to the United States, back in 1974.  In 2021, the company was acquired by ConnectAmerica, the same folks that operate MedicalAlert.com.

With a total startup cost $129.90, a $49.95 monthly monitoring fee, plus an additional $15.00 month for automatic fall detection, Lifeline On The Go has a relatively high first year cost of $909.30.

We found Lifeline On The Go to be a solid product backed by excellent service with reliable fall detection.  Lifeline’s sales and service were among the top of the companies we tested. Their sales representatives went beyond the call of duty to help us get an AARP discount.

If you’re looking for a mobile medical alert system backed by a high-quality company offering exceptional service, Lifeline is a great choice.
