A Medical Alert System You Don’t Have to Wear!
Although we specifically cover the medical alert space, our staff have always had a neck out into other industries to watch for trends that could eventually find its way into protecting the aging population.
One of the more relatable industries is the world of home security. This is an industry that focuses on not only protecting property, but more importantly, the people inside them.
So for us, it’s exciting when a forward-thinking home security company that has a product portfolio full of video cameras and home automation products gets into medical alerts. Compared to other industries, the medical alert arena has always been slow moving so we’re excited that GetSafe is entering the landscape with both traditional and new ideas.

Solving the “I don’t want to wear it” problem
When GetSafe set out to create a medical alert system, they focused on the biggest hurdle consumers had… how to get mom & dad to wear the dang thing. And the solution was simple – put less emphasis on wearables and just like home security, focus on having devices that are passively placed around the home.
Simply put, GetSafe’s buttons are designed to be wall-mounted and easily accessible during a fall or emergency.
Aesthetics
One look at GetSafe’s design language and you’ll quickly notice that aesthetics is a large part of their core competency. From the website, to their videos, and right down to their hardware and app, everything is designed to provide a modern look and feel.
GetSafe has decided to funnel those ideas into their medical alert systems. By utilizing the same manufacturer for their home security systems, GetSafe was able to extend their best-in-class home security hardware into a medical alert offering.
All of the equipment feature high-gloss white finishes that will look right at home with a modern living space. If you’re an Apple, Nest, or Amazon user, this equipment will immediately look at home with all of your other peripherals. We think GetSafe hit a home-run here by making sure their entire suite of products had the same look and feel as their home security offerings.

Accessories – That Don’t Need to Be Worn
Like most other companies, GetSafe has options for automatic fall detection and wireless wall buttons. One cool accessory that we want to highlight is their Wireless Voice-Activated Wall Button.
Similar to a standard wall button, this device is made to be placed near the ground and high-risk fall locations like bathrooms and kitchens. The beauty of this device however is that it has built-in 2-way voice communication. So for larger homes where the bathroom might be far away from the main console, this device will serve as an extender and if help is needed, communication will go through this instead of the user needing to scream/shout to talk to the base station.
Call, Push, or Pull
Another neat feature about the device is that it can be activated simply by saying “call 9-1-1, call 9-1-1”. The feature works amazingly well and a great backup option if you rendered immobile during an accident.
Dubbed the “mini-me”, the device is powered by standard AA batteries and we highly recommend giving this add-on a try. Up to 10 buttons can be paired with a GetSafe base console so just about any sized home will have sufficient coverage.

Pricing
Pricing for GetSafe is a bit unique compared to other medical alert brands. With most providers, the more equipment you get, the higher your monthly subscription cost will be.
With GetSafe on the other hand, your subscription price stays flat at $24.95/mo for the life of the service (add $10 if you want automatic fall detection). This is because GetSafe allows a customer to purchase the equipment outright instead of being leased. Yes the upfront cost will be a bit higher but it’s pretty easy to see the cost savings over a course of just a year.
- GetSafe: Standard Package for 1 year: $27.95/mo (12 months) + $99 upfront = $398.40
- Competition: Standard Medical Alert Package : $39.95 (12 months) = $479.40
In addition, all GetSafe systems include AT&T 4G LTE cellular coverage so there’s no need to worry about a landline which is great for cord-cutters.

Conclusion
